{"id":389,"date":"2015-12-01T14:04:41","date_gmt":"2015-12-01T14:04:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mathesonmarcault.com\/?p=389"},"modified":"2016-07-04T18:43:19","modified_gmt":"2016-07-04T18:43:19","slug":"the-light-machine-at-eames-serious-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mathesonmarcault.com\/index.php\/2015\/12\/01\/the-light-machine-at-eames-serious-play\/","title":{"rendered":"The Light Machine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Charles and Ray Eames made\u00a0joyful play part of a serious and thoughtful design process &#8211; play to explore materials, to find\u00a0new ways of looking at the world.\u00a0Making toys and creative games sat alongside their product design practice, and\u00a0each fed into the other.<\/p>\n<p>Around the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbican.org.uk\/artgallery\/event-detail.asp?ID=18398\">Barbican&#8217;s exhibition<\/a> of their work, the Creative Learning department commissioned us to run\u00a0a drop-in activity that connects\u00a0to the Eames&#8217; work for their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbican.org.uk\/artgallery\/event-detail.asp?ID=18681\">Family Play<\/a>\u00a0event. The Light Machine is the result. It&#8217;s a game designed to trigger joyful creativity, and we were thrilled with how people\u00a0threw themselves into\u00a0playing with the tools we gave them.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Players\u00a0start by blindly choosing a title from a range of cards, and then make the image that goes with it on a piece of acetate. The overhead projector transmutes and changes their image, and projects it huge and glorious on the wall.
